In late 2018, a spectacular new project is set to redefine and re-energize Montreal’s downtown core and bring a worldclass luxury ecosystem to life in the city’s centre.

Developed by Carbonleo, the dynamic Quebec property development and management company, Montréal will once again become home to the world’s leading luxury hotel and resort brand, Four Seasons.

Located at the heart of Montréal’s ultra chic Golden Square Mile, within walking distance of multiple museums, art galleries, gourmet restaurants and luxury boutiques, the 170-room hotel, along with only 18 spectacular Four Seasons Private Residences, is set to transform De la Montagne Street forever.

“We’ve been working with some of the world’s best architects and designers, including Gilles & Boissier for the hotel’s interior layout, Philip Hazan Design for the private residences, and Lemay and Sid Lee for the building architecture, ” said Carbonleo Executive Vice President and Partner Claude Marcotte. “We’re also working with a number of talented and world-renowned local partners in the areas of design and lifestyle to create a truly inspiring and unique ecosystem for visitors and Montrealers alike.”

Luxury, calm and exquisite pleasure

The energy of the hotel will emanate from its highly anticipated 4th floor, acting as the social nexus of place. Aweinspiring restaurants designed by international luminaries with a strong Montreal connection give way to a modern interpretation of the gourmet experience done the Montreal way, by an internationally acclaimed local culinary visionary. Guests will be able to drink up the sexy atmosphere in the restaurant or connect in a beautifully landscaped outdoor canopy when making the most of Montreal’s warmer days and nights is a priority!

The upscale hotel will house an indoor pool, a fitness centre and a state-of-the-art spa, allowing guests to unwind in all four seasons after taking in the sensual energy of the city and all that is possible at the hotel. Cleverly designed to accommodate major events, the hotel will also include a 6,000 square foot ballroom with a sweeping terrace with some of the best views in the city.

“The project’s inspiration is Le Palais des Possibles,
an iconic place where sensuality meets intelligent design,
where a world of exclusivity opens before your eyes,
a world in which each detail seduces and
surprises you at every turn.

Murielle Zagury, Vice President Marketing at Carbonleo

The sky’s the limit

Sitting on top of the Four Seasons Hotel, the private residences are homes in the sky, providing their inhabitants with unobstructed views of the city. With soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, they are bathed in light, with large terraces providing a front row view of every sunrise and sunset. The high-quality materials, sleek design and careful finishes all contribute to a luxurious experience of contemporary harmony and serenity.

As proud owners at the city’s most sought-after address, the fortunate few who will live in these luxurious surroundings will have exclusive access to the hotel’s facilities while enjoying personalized à la carte services. Residents can write their own lifestyle rules, whether hiring a chef for a festive evening at home, consulting a personal trainer or shopper, or embracing the nightlife of the hotel with the promise of returning to the luxury cocoon of the residence.

A celebration of urban life

With year-round international festivals and events, Montreal is one of the world’s style, culture and good living capitals, blending the best of European and North American culture. Built in the heart of the action, the new Four Seasons development will reflect the city’s unique personality. Linking the Bell Centre to the museum district, this new living space will be adjacent to Saint Catherine Street’s prestigious Ogilvy boutique in downtown Montreal. Currently under renovation, the new Ogilvy’s/Holt Renfrew concept will be a mustsee luxury destination, covering over 220,000 square feet. “Montrealers have been waiting to see how De la Montagne Street will evolve,” said Jean-François Breton, President of Carbonleo. “We are very proud to be leading this outstanding project that’s sure to revitalize the downtown core.”

Located on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, Los Cabos is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico, with its desert climate, breathtaking landscapes and ideal ocean setting for scuba diving. Many stars, such as George Clooney and Cindy Crawford, have made it their home, while others visit regularly for vacations. Here are a few go-to places and activities that might make you want to visit this little corner of paradise too.

Los Cabos consists of two towns: San José del Cabo, a traditional Mexican village, and Cabo San Lucas, which is much more touristy. Close to 35 kilometres of beautiful Sea of Cortez coastline separate them. Here, villas, luxury hotels and golf courses abound.

Cabo San Lucas has a very beautiful marina where sailboats, fishing boats, water taxis and sumptuous yachts are anchored. In close proximity, cafés, restaurants, shopping centres and walking paths become the meeting place for visitors from all walks of life. Once the sun sets, the city is very lively, and its nightclubs, including the Cabo Wabo Cantina founded by rock legend Sammy Hagar, are renowned for their festive atmosphere.

WHAT TO DO

THRILL-SEEKING

Hiking on desert paths, biking across the mountains to Punta Gorda or the Cabo Real nature reserve, riding camels, driving 4x4s in the desert: ecotourism and adventure enthusiasts will find an amazing array of activities in Los Cabos.

EL ARCO (THE ARCH)

Take a short trip to the Empacadora beach, favoured by locals. There, off in the distance, you’ll see the rocky arch that is the town’s symbol. To see it up close, take a water taxi from the marina. The view is spectacular on the tip of Baja California where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. It’s quite fitting that this place is sometimes called “the end of the world.”

SCUBA DIVING

There is so much marine life in the Sea of Cortez that Jacques Cousteau called it the “aquarium of the world.” Dozens of idyllic beaches, such as Playa el Chileno, are perfect for scuba diving.

SPORT FISHING

Ranked among the five best fishing destinations in the world, Los Cabos can boast of being the “Marlin Capital of the World.” Here, marlins can reach up to 500 kilos! There are also many other fish species, including the sea bream and swordfish. Pisces Sportfishing (www.piscessportfishing. com) offers well-organized fishing trips that can last several days, on crewed boats from 28-foot motor boats to luxury yachts and everything in between.

WHALE WATCHING

From mid-December to mid-March, whales hang out in the vicinity of Puerto Balandra and the beaches of Cabo San Lucas. All you have to do is get to the beach to admire them. From January to June, you can swim with whale sharks in the Bay of La Paz

GOLF

Los Cabos has no less than fifteen truly magnificent golf courses. Many resorts, such as the One&Only Palmilla, also offer golf lessons.

WHERE TO STAY

Los Cabos has a wide variety of highend accommodations, from casita rentals to ocean-view villas with private swimming pools to five-star hotels.

ONE&ONLY PALMILLA

Built in 1956, this sumptuous resort has lodged many Hollywood stars, such as Bing Crosby and former U.S. President Eisenhower. Overlooking the picturesque coast, all the rooms have a view of the ocean, top-of-the-line amenities and a butler service. The property is ideally located to take advantage of on-site and nearby activities (pool, spa, golf course, tennis, surfing, excursions, etc.)

MARQUIS LOS CABOS

This adults-only, AAA Four Diamond hotel is located on a private beach. Its 235 rooms and suites are stunning and the service is impeccable. Guests can participate in on-site activities such as dance classes and archery, and evenings are very lively. The hotel also has a large spa, three pools and five restaurants. It’s an ideal place for weddings.

WHERE TO EAT

Los Cabos has much to offer in terms of gastronomy. The area has excellent restaurants offering regional specialities as well as diverse and inspired cuisine. The quality of the wine also deserves mention.

HERE ARE OUR FAVOURITES:

• Acre (San José del Cabo)

• Toro Latin Kitchen and Bar (Cabo San Lucas)

• Don Manuel (Cabo San Lucas)

• Seared (hôtel One&Only Palmilla)

• Manta (Cabo San Lucas)

• Nido (hôtel Mar Adentro)

• Javiers (Cabo Azul Resort)

Skyscraper

The word skyscraper is forever associated with Utopian cities and their effort to conquer space. The architecture of New York brings to mind this futuristic vision. It evokes science fiction tales, the images of men travelling in flying devices, slaloming between towers, finding pathways in the sky. This landscape of the future dreamt by early modern men, has become part of our contemporary reality. Manhattan incarnates the modern city made of high-rises and fast streets.

Lauren Berger Collection has selected the perfect apartment for a full New York experience. This apartment is on one of the highest floors of a superb high-rise. In a prime location, the building offers exclusive amenities, including a private leisure lounge with a beautiful rooftop patio and a fitness center.

In the midst of Midtown, the beautiful two-bedroom apartment is perched in the air, dominating the city. Its spectacular space spans 1250 sq ft designed to provide the experience of pure luxury. If you have ever dreamed of living in a futuristic building and waking up with a breathtaking view of Times Square, this is the place for you. The experience is memorable and can never be reproduced elsewhere.

The spirit of New York

Times Square is a symbol of New York’s life. The neighborhood bustles with energy. It embodies the entrepreneurial, daring spirit of the city. Corporate headquarters and the fashion district partake in the dynamism of Times Square. At night, the area activity converges to the theater district, one of the cultural Mecca of the world. The city most famous plays and musicals are performed on Broadway to the audience’s delight. Tourists and residents alike gather in front of the theatres waiting under the shining lights. Before and after the play, they will fill up the restaurants, bars and comedy clubs. The streets of Times Square will be fully alive until the end of the night.

The view and the silence

The architecture of New York presents itself in the most unique way viewed from the air. This is true for most cities. We know this instinctively, looking for the perfect elevated spot to enjoy the vista in every metropolis we visit. From high up, we see better; we can fully appreciate the urban density and witness its pace. New York, more than any other city, offers the possibility of being looked at from above. The Empire State Building and the World Trade Center embody the desire New Yorkers have to rise above the ground and occupy observatory points.

Living in a well located high-rise, you will experience New York in the most privileged way. Your view will be private and will rival the best the city has to offer. Lauren Berger Collection’s two-bedroom is located in a soaring 60-story high-rise, a magnificent contemporary building. Every room in the apartment benefits from a mesmerizing view of the Manhattan skyline. The living room and the bedrooms have the most enchanting perspectives, of course.

What is always remarkable in these apartments in the sky is how quiet they are. All the noises of the busy urban traffic are edited out. The view alone remains. It is magical to be able to enjoy it privately in the sound of silence. The bedrooms face the spectacle of Times Square and, to the west, the Hudson River. Falling asleep with the illuminated city at your feet—isn’t that a dream?

Transparency and light

Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the space in natural light. There are no external walls, only transparent partitions with the exterior world. You feel suspended in the clear sky. Nothing around but a peaceful light. The two spacious bedrooms are located at each end of the apartment with their adjacent luxurious bathrooms. The living room and the kitchen are central and equipped with the latest appliances and audio-visual devices.

Dressed in white, cream and blue, the apartment’s decoration and furnishing are perfectly in harmony with the concept of living in the sky. The colors are soft, luminous and fresh. Light reflects off the whites, travels and brushes softly the plush textures of bed covers and sofas. All the wooden surfaces of the cabinets and floors are sleek and smooth. Their deep caramel brown brings an earthy component to the design. The entire apartment is simply beautiful: a world of glass, marble and wood. All the details are exquisitely crafted to create a unique experience of New York City.

The Osprey at the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is a collaboration between four men of incredible talent: Tribeca restaurant mogul Matt Abramcyk, Partner and Culinary Director Michael Oliver (Lafayette), Chef de Cuisine Mike Poiarkoff (Vinegar Hill House) and Barry Sternlicht of 1 Hotels. Reclaimed wood and living walls wrap the dining room and bar, bringing the outdoors in.

The Osprey feels bold and smart. Zero waste, farm-to-table ingredients, creative cooking: the menu offers ambitious cuisine for the new millennium. Heirloom veggies, local meat and fish go into fare like the Coney Island clam chowder, roasted mushroom and Hubbard squash toast, Montauk squid and NY strip steaks. Executive Chef extraordinaire, Michael Oliver, took a moment to talk to LUXE magazine.

COULD YOU TELL US OF YOUR DECISION TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE DINING SCENE IN BROOKLYN WITH THE OSPREY?

While I had always worked in Manhattan, I have actually lived in Brooklyn for the past 17 years. It has always been my dream to have a neighbourhood restaurant in Brooklyn. It is my hope that The Osprey will become a local favourite where our neighbours bring their children and celebrate their milestones. Working in such a beautiful environment is so inspirational. I get to look out at one of the most beautiful views in New York every day, and that really comes through in my work.

HOW WAS THE MENU AT THE OSPREY CREATED AND ORCHESTRATED FOR THIS WINTER SEASON?

This season’s menu is the product of intense collaboration with my amazing team, but I think that we all view it as an ongoing evolution, even now. We are constantly tweaking and perfecting, so we can keep delivering fun and surprising experiences to our guests. I am very fortunate to have such a fantastic team supporting me; they believe in the restaurant’s vision as much as or even more than I do.

COULD YOU SPEAK TO US ABOUT YOUR FARM-TO-TABLE PHILOSOPHY HERE IN BROOKLYN?

New York is an amazing city, so metropolitan and yet located between the coast and beautiful farmland upstate. So we have close access to fantastic butchers, fishmongers and farms. While I have worked with local purveyors for many years, I credit my Chef de Cuisine, Mike Poiarkoff, for bringing to our restaurant some fantastic vendors that I had not worked with previously.

COULD YOU SHARE YOUR SECRET FOR THE ROASTED CHICKEN?

Our rotisserie chicken begins with great birds, which we source from Goffle Farms, in New Jersey. We slowly roast them in a Rotisol rotisserie, imported from France. We then pair it with simply roasted vegetables and a sauce inspired by the French countryside.

Walk past Van Cleef & Arpels and Mikimoto, turn onto 53rd Street, and, across from the iconic Museum of Modern Art, you will find the Baccarat Hotel New York. The entrance is framed by a prismatic glass wall and a modernist dark awning. From the red carpet lit by crystal chandeliers, a doorman will usher you onto a private elevator. Enter a world of exalted luxury, reserved for a very few. Welcome to Baccarat, where every moment is magical, every sight a delight.

A new edge to Baccarat

Created by the legendary French crystal company, the first ever Baccarat Hotel rises in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, at the epicentre of New York City culture and luxury. The hotel’s contemporary spaces exude impeccable taste and elegance. Parisian designers Gilles & Boissier have created a fusion of sensibilities, with the sophistication of Paris and the boldness of New York City.

Baccarat was built by artisans seeking to achieve perfection never seen before. It became what it is today by crafting exceptional works treasured by the world’s most powerful. At the Baccarat Hotel, each carefully curated piece brings this history into the present.

Baccarat signature colours

Baccarat is famous for its formidable chandeliers, and the hotel showcases this wonderfully with exquisite lighting in every salon and suite, accented with Baccarat crystal and the fiery crimson shade of Baccarat red. The limpid crystals are akin to diamonds—nothing compares to their purity— while the ruby ones offer a much deeper, sensual luminosity.

White, red and black are central to the hotel’s colour palette. Gorgeous spherical bouquets of red roses and red accent pieces spark up a joyful touch amidst the elegant white leathers, lunar veined marble floors and creamy draperies. The bar and the art gallery are a daring marriage of red, white and black. The rhythm is faster, the space, dynamic.

Grand Salon, Petit Salon

Alluding to a suite of reception rooms in a French chateau, the Grand Salon and Petit Salon are Baccarat Hotel New York’s dining and lounge areas. With their high ceilings, sparkling crystal and dazzling vitrines, both sumptuous salons are perfect for a relaxing pause or social gathering.

The Petit Salon is intimate and dimmed, with wooden panels and a golden ceiling. It is ideal for a private conversation or a good read. The contemporary Grand Salon feels airy and chic, with Jouffre silk-covered walls. This is where the afternoon teas, lunches and dinners are served.

The Baccarat has many delicious bites and small plates. The menu is filled with delicacies like truffles and caviar, and a wonderful array of seafood and meats. Pastry chef Rosario Wakabayashi’s delightful desserts are fantastic. The service is impeccable and discreet.

The Bar and the art

Most hip New Yorkers have sat at the Baccarat bar for a late-night drink. Weekdays and weekends alike, The Bar and its terrace attract a chic crowd, who come for the cocktails and the cool atmosphere.

The Baccarat has an extensive and sophisticated art collection. Art lovers are sure to enjoy the works of many renowned artists, which are displayed throughout the hotel spaces. The bar walls in particular are replete with framed works. The collection is more than just paintings: Baccarat crystal glasses, with their iconic, famously architectural designs, are used in The Bar, salons and rooms.

The rooms and suites

If you are looking for a luxurious personal escape, the Baccarat is the hotel for you. All rooms feature crystal and have a sensual elegance, with four-poster king-sized beds, white plush covers and luxurious linens. The pièce de résistance is the Baccarat Suite, an 1800-square-foot space with a bedroom, living room, powder room and grand foyer. The suite offers multiple possibilities, from private retreats to in-room cocktail parties.

The designers have created a splendid interior with custom furniture and detailed décor embracing contemporary French esthetics. Black and white rococo-inspired motifs, classical proportions and modern furnishings come together flawlessly. A world of texture unfolds, from the softest cashmere and velour to sleek lacquer and white leathers.

Spa and pool

The lower level of the Baccarat houses the Spa de La Mer, a glorious swimming pool and fitness centre, all of which is welcoming and beautifully designed, inspired by luxurious European seaside retreats.

After your treatment, extend your experience by enjoying a peaceful moment under the lush canopied day beds along the pool. You will never want to leave this dreamy retreat, reminiscent of antique Roman baths and the French Riviera.
